John McArthur Carr departed this life on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, VA.  John was born November 17, 1954 to the late Jethro and Naomi Carr.  John made sure he utilized all of his God given talents by pursuing his education and taking advantage of various employment opportunities.

While attending Hampton High School he participated in a program at Hampton Institute where he was awarded a certificate of attendance of the experimental school of accelerated learning in 1968.  He received an Associate's Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College in 1977 where he majored in Audio Visual Communication Equipment and Maintenance Service.  He attended Old Dominion University, with hopes of obtaining an Electronic Engineering Degree. He later worked at  NASA/LAFB and with Wyle Laboratories as an Electronic Instrumentation Technician. He received the "NASA individual Achievement Award for contribution to the success of the First Flight of the space shuttle" in 1981. He specifically worked on experimental testing of the Heat Shield for the space shuttle.  John was also a substitute teacher in the Newport News Public School system.

In latter years, John continued to pursue various jobs and opportunities that were of interest to him.

John was preceded in death by Faye Suiter (sister).

John leaves five children to cherish his memory: Resh, Lerue, Naeemah Pierce (Dominic), Teariah, and Caleb; two grandchildren, Dajaniah Pierce and Darius Carr; seven brothers and sisters: Joseph Addison (Frances), Naomi Corry (Walter), Marie Washington (Wesley), Rena Carr, Jethro Carr (Susie), Hazel Ham, and Kevin Carr; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 12 Noon on Monday, November 11, 2019 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be on Sunday, November 10th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4 :00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Please keep the family in your prayers during their time of grief.  O.
