John Harrison Ingram III was born June 23, 1959, in Newport News, Virginia to the late John H. Ingram, Jr. and Sarah Drummond Ingram. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Virginia Commonwealth University Critical Care Medical Center following a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease. Preceding him in death were his parents, a godson, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

"Johnny," as he was affectionately known by family members, was a lifelong member of St. Augustine's Episcopal church where he served as an acolyte in his youth. He graduated from Ferguson High School and Virginia State University.

Johnny loved working with children. One of his jobs was as a counselor at Edgemeade Residential Treatment Center in Upper Marlboro MD. He had a passion and a skill for working with students with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. He finished his career in special education at Warwick High School, Newport News, VA. Even when he was critically ill, he was concerned about his students.

Johnny had a memorable laugh that always preceded any stories he would share about encounters with the many people who he loved and loved him. His passions were his family, his friends, his dogs, golf, gardening, cooking, listening to jazz and 70s and 80s R&B and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Several trips to Pittsburgh to see the Steelers play were truly highlights for him.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister Rhea Ingram of Centreville VA, his first cousins Sheila Drummond Camm (Emmitt) of Owings Mills MD, Jerome Drummond (Kiwami) of Leesburg VA, Willis Drummond (Tessa) of West Orange NJ, Shirley Sadler of Winston-Salem, NC and several other family members and friends.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 2515 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, Virginia.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
