Mr. John Robert Mitchell, Sr. was born March 3, 1935 and quietly passed away on December 29, 2022. He was affectionately referred to as "Boo Jack" by family and friends.

John was born in Castalia, Nash County, North Carolina. His early education occurred at Nash County Training School, later named Nash Central High School in Nashville, North Carolina. Mr. Mitchell began his college education at Hampton Institute, now Hampton University. He earned his Associate Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College achieving induction into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Before retirement, John was employed by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company and the John J. McMullen design firm. He was an accomplished artist with his last portrait hanging in the Nash County Training School Alumni Hall in honor of the longtime coach of his alma mater.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.

Given the ongoing threat of COVID infections, a memorial service and interment will occur in the spring/summer of 2023.
