Newport News- Josephine Godwin Talton, 85, passed away on August 22, 2017. She was born in Selma, North Carolina.

Josephine was married to William "Rogers" Talton. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Shalom Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Shalom Choir, the Kitchen Committee and the Fruit of the Spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Delores Sinkler; a daughter, Annie Margaret Ellis; and a son, Frederick Oshel Talton.
She is survived by two daughters, Cecelia Y. White (James) and Angela Talton-Futrell; a son, William T. Talton (Nicole); three brothers, Dock Godwin, Jr. (Wanda), James B. Godwin and Alvin J. Godwin (Diane); three sisters, Rochelle Howell, Doretha Godwin, and Emma Morris; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Shalom Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m., Friday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
