Josephine White was born January 26, 1926 to the late Lonniell Jones and Sherman White, Sr. in Newport News, VA.  She entered into eternal life to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Gardens of Warwick Forrest in Newport News.

She was a graduate of Huntington High School.  After graduation, she was employed at the first and only Black owned bank in Newport News, Crown Savings Bank.  Later she worked as a Medical Insurance Clerk at Dr. Douglas' office, Whitaker Memorial Hospital and Newport News General Hospital where she retired.

Josephine accepted Christ at an early age and was active in the Senior Choir, Willing Workers, and with the youth at Antioch Baptist Church in Newport News.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Lonniell White; two brothers, Sherman Jr. and Theodore White; five sisters, Violet Gray, Lillie Franklin, Elizabeth White, Martha Blount and Lonniell White.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, two sisters, Ruth Williams and Jocelyn Howard (Harry); daughter, Deborah White; grandson, Darrick White (Taliese); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She will be sadly missed and known for making and cooking her mother's homemade rolls for Sunday's family soul food dinners.

Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be private, however can be viewed after 2 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2020 on the funeral home's website.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the familiy.
