Mrs. Josephine Harriett Harmon Williams

Mrs. Josephine Harmon Williams quietly entered eternal life on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. She was born in Harlem Hospital in New York on October 17, 1939, unto the late Sherman Harmon and Josephine Phillips Harmon Stevens. She had two brothers, the late John Harmon and Allen Harmon. She finished high school at the historic Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina in 1957. She matriculated to the Hampton Institute (now University), majoring in education. She graduated in 1961. During her time at Hampton Institute, she met Caesar Damone Williams. They were married in 1961. She also attended Arcadia (Beaver) College and received a Master's in Education in 1982.

She was an elementary school teacher in the Philadelphia school system for over 35 years. After retirement, the Williams settled in Hampton, Virginia, and were married for 48 years until Mr. Williams transitioned in 2009. Her mother's family are of John Mallory Phillips I, seafood industry leader and co-founder of the historic Bay Shore Beach.

Remembering her are sons, Caesar Jr. (Katrina), Paul (Crystal) and Christopher Williams; five grandchildren, Tyler Nicole Josephine, Christopher Roosevelt, Nicolas Alexander, Caesar III (Trey), and Blake Anthony Williams; brother, Allen Harmon; nieces, Anneliese and Dr. Chyleigh Harmon; uncle, Joseph Phillips; devoted cousins, Carolyn Phillips, Joan Phillips, and Helen Phillips-Pitts; and a host of family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 10:00 am at Greater Walters AME Zion Church, 656 28 ^th Street, Newport News, VA, 23607.  The Memorial Service will commence at 11:00am. Masks and proof of COVID 19 vaccinations are required. Special thanks to the Chesapeake Senior Living Community for all courtesies extended to the Williams family. In lieu of flowers, per Mrs. Williams' request, memorial gifts may be sent to Carver Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Food Bank at Carver, 830-25th Street, Newport News, VA  23607. O. H.
