Mr. Kerry “Kano” Linzy, 62, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and a loyal friend to many.

Born on August 24, 1963, in Newport News, Virginia, Kerry was the son of the late Christoria Linzy and Joseph A. Borden, Jr. A gifted artist, he captured the attention of many throughout the community and had the honor of having his artwork displayed in several libraries across Virginia.

Kerry was a quiet soul—an observer with a gentle spirit. He loved music and cherished time spent with family. Known for traveling everywhere with his boom box, he found joy in listening to Prince and classic Rhythm & Blues while watching his loved ones laugh, play spades or dominoes, and enjoy one another. His smooth, tender smile was unforgettable. Though admittedly spoiled, he was also the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation.

His loyalty was unwavering, allowing him to build friendships that lasted more than five decades, including lifelong bonds with friends such as Lonnie and Jabo.

Kerry attended Newport News Intermediate School, where he expressed his individuality by wearing suits to school each day. He also attended Providence Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, KeAnn Lavon Jones; his maternal grandparents, Seth and Olivia Linzy; his brother, Shawn Linzy; his sister, Gleniece Shirelle Linzy; four uncles; and four aunts.

Kerry leaves to cherish his memory three brothers: Marvincent, Dana, and Randy (Brinklyn), all of Newport News, Virginia; two sisters: Twona Linzy of Newport News, Virginia, and Tandy Linzy of Clayton, North Carolina; one aunt, Della Mae Fox of Hampton, Virginia; a “special” son, Desmond O’Neal Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; fifteen nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His presence, his artistry, and his gentle spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the funeral home.  Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
