Obituary

LaDevra Vitina Cary was born on August 26, 1959, in Columbus, Georgia, to Elsie M. Wood and the late Edward Wood. She transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

LaDevra was educated in the military school system beginning in kindergarten in Munich, Germany and then continued her education in Columbus, GA, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Knox, KY, Fort Leonardwood, MI, Wahiawa, HI, and graduated from Spencer High School in Columbus, GA in June 1977. She also attended Saint Leo University.

LaDevra found her true love, Larry Cary who preceded her in death. They were united in Holy Matrimony on June 18, 1977, and were blessed with three daughters, Angelita, Larrisha and Tia.

LaDevra was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding/Huntington Ingalls for 41 years and retired in March 2022 as a Drawing Clerk Supervisor. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

LaDevra enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved her grandchildren, and you could always find one or all of them at her home. On any given day, you could find LaDevra enjoying a good card game of spades and cooking for her family and friends. She made sure that you did not leave her home empty handed. LaDevra enjoyed all types of sports, especially track and field and softball. She had the most loving and warmest heart and never met a stranger. LaDevra enjoyed traveling and was looking forward to taking a trip back to Hawaii to visit her high school.
