LaGuardia Cofield was born on August 19,1951 in Newport News, Virginia to Walter Cofield and Alice Pope Stephenson.  LaGuardia, known to many as Cofield, joined eternal peace On October 28, 2023, after fighting a long illness.

LaGuardia is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Cofield and Alice Pope Stephenson; and his brother, Anthony Cofield.

LaGuardia attended Newport News Public Schools at an early age. He later graduated from Huntington High School class of 1969 and continued his education at Saint Paul College and graduated in 1973. LaGuardia worked for Chesapeake Masonry for many years where he later retired. He went back to work and worked for Top Guard Security and Inter Con Security where he retired again. In his spare time, he loved to spend time with his family. He loved his grandkids and would spend most of his weekends at his grandkids sporting events or hanging with his wife and kids.

He leaves to cherish his memory to his wife, Jean Cofield of 39 years; his children, Alex Cofield (Charisse Cofield),  Alicia Cofield-McNair (Corey McNair) and Adam Cofield (Alesha Harper-Cofield); four grandkids, Aarik, Aaron, Bryson, and Charlize Cofield; six sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kannarkat at Riverside Oncology and his nursing staff and they would also like to thank his Hospice Nurse Brittany Eley for taking care of him in his final days.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2023 at the funeral home.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
