Leon Lipkins completed his earthly journey and peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Leon was born on April 5, 1937, in Athens, GA to the late Ike and Lillie Mae Lipkins.   He was educated in the Newport News Public School System and was a proud Carver Alumnus.  He then served in the United States Air Force.  While stationed In South Carolina he met and married his beloved wife Annie Louise Davis in 1958. The newlyweds made Virginia their home.  After his tenure in the military, he proceeded to work for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.  He and Louise together completed barber school at Anthony's Barber College, they owned and operated a shuttle service and later operated a Medicaid transportation service.   Leon was a member of First Baptist Church East End.  He had a great love for children which was exemplified by becoming a faithful foster parent for Hampton Department of Social Services. It was nothing for him to take his nieces and nephews joy riding or to the movies leaving his sisters to wonder about the whereabouts of their children.  He loved people, in particular old classmates and friends from his childhood neighborhood and remained faithful with staying in contact.  Leon truly was the fun dad; grandfather, brother, uncle, and comical friend who would keep you laughing.  Whenever you saw Leon, he always had a joke to tell and would laugh just as hard telling it as you would hearing it. His grandson Isaac looked forward to the joke of the day and would come in from school and say, "what do you have for me today, Granddaddy?"

He was preceded in death by his faithful wife of fifty-three years, Annie Louise Lipkins, his brothers, Thomas Lipkins and Willie Lipkins;  four sisters, Dorothy Lipkins, Martha Evans, Helen Smith, and Annie Evans.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Isaac Lipkins, Sr. (Tyeasha); grandchildren, Iyana, Lauryn, Isaac Jr., and Imani; daughter, Christine Blackwell (David); grandchildren, David, Kevin, Adrianne, Lorenzo and Lanisha; one brother, Richard Lipkins (Caroline); three sisters, Elizabeth Boyd, Mary Ivey, and Eloise Peterson;  twenty-one great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Leroy Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2021 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Due to COVID 19 restrictions the funeral and burial will be private.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
