Obituary

Levi Hicks Jr 74, of Hampton Virginia, transitioned into eternal rest in Christ on March 2, 2025. A peaceful Sunday afternoon surrounded by his loving wife and Children.

Levi was born on July 20, 1950, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Levi was the beloved son of Levi Edward Hicks and Rosanelle Hicks (Starke). He graduated from Dillard High School in Goldsboro in 1969 as part of the Wayne County Public Schools system.

In 1972, Levi relocated to Newport News, Virginia, where he began a dedicated career at Newport News Shipbuilding, working diligently for 40 years before his retirement in 2012.

Levi's love for music was evident from a young age. In school, he sang opera and continued to showcase his vocal talents in junior college. However, his greatest passion was basketball. A high-ranking athlete, he excelled in the sport until an injury altered his path. Levi channeled his passion into coaching, becoming one of the greatest and most respected coaches in local recreational and church leagues, inspiring generations of young athletes.

In January 1977, Levi met the love of his life, Brenda Joyce Hinton. Their bond was undeniable, and by June of the same year, they were engaged and married. That same year, he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ, committing himself fully to faith and service.

The Hicks family first joined Triumph Pentecostal Church of Deliverance in Newport News, VA, under the leadership of Apostle Joseph G. Sneed. There, Levi served as a choir member, and director of the male chorus, and was later ordained as a Deacon, taking on responsibilities that he fulfilled with unwavering dedication.

On October 23, 1994, the family transitioned to Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, where he served under Bishop Courtney and Pastor Janeen McBath. Levi's dedication to ministry continued as he served in the choir, Christian Education, Care Groups, and as Head Coach for the church's youth and men's basketball leagues. He deeply loved his church and his ministry and served faithfully until his health began to fail.

Levi's passion for youth development extended beyond the church. His close basketball colleagues, they dedicated to helping young athletes secure college opportunities through basketball scholarships.

Levi was preceded in death by his mother Rosanelle and father Levi Edward Hicks as well as 2 siblings a brother Thomas Edward Hicks and a sister Louis Bethea.

Levi was a devoted husband leaving behind his loving wife of 47 years, Brenda Joyce Hicks; his four children, Christopher Jamal Jones, Levi Hicks III, Kristel Charvone Hicks, and Markise Jermont Hicks.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended grandchildren, and dear friends who were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
