Dr. Linwood T. Daye, Sr., 89, departed this life on January 19, 2021 after a brief illness. He served as the pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Newport News for 40 years. Under his leadership the church experienced tremendous growth, and established a day care center and a home for the elderly.

His wife of 47 years, Daisy R. Daye, and his son, Dr. Linwood T. Daye, Jr., preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn four children: Linda Smith (Jackie); Sherron Donnell (Vernon); Gwenevere Richardson (Willie); Alvis Daye (Debbi); and 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dr. Daye will lie in repose at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Ave in Newport News on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., and at Zion Baptist Church, 633 20 ^th Street in Newport News on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be limited due to Covid-19, but will be live-streamed on the church's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that well-wishers make a donation to the Daisy R. Daye Memorial Scholarship Fund at Zion Baptist Church in memory of Linwood T. Daye.  O. H.
