Newport News-Marcus Ward was born on April 27, 1968 to Melvin and Myrtle Ward in Brooklyn, New York. He departed this earthly life on Thursday, September 14, 2017.

Marcus attended the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research, founded by Dr. Henry Clifford Kinley, for over thirty years.

After graduation from Sara J. Hale High School, Brooklyn, New York in 1987 he joined the United States Marine Corps where he received an honorable discharge in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Ward. Out of the union with Christina Ramos; he leaves to cherish his memory a loving daughter and son, LaChristol Ward (Jamal Fenning) and Anthony Ward; two brothers, Allen Majors (Shirley) and Matthew Ward (Deborah); one sister, Joyce Dantzler (Larry); a special friend, Chemira Anderson; two grandchildren, Christopher London-Fenning and Leila Fenning; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and caring cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Tuesday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ward family.
