Marian Elaine Whitaker entered into eternal rest on April 4, 2025, at the age of 88 in Riverview, Florida. She was the beloved daughter of the late Benjamin Perry and Gertrude Perry and sister of the late Nettie Perry Bailey.

Marian was born on November 17, 1936, in Newport News, Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Baptist Church where she participated in Sunday School and other church activities. In 1984, she was one of the founders of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She served in several ministries including the Gleaners, Harvesters and Repast Committee. She was an active and devoted member until her passing.

Marian attended Newport News Public Schools and graduated from Huntington High School. She graduatedfrom Peninsula Business College in 1957. Marian gained employment with Newport News Shipbuilding where she worked faithfully in various office positions for over 40years.

In 1960, Marian married Junior Howard Whitaker and remained united for 55 years until his passing. Marian and Howard loved family, friends and their community andthey loved to travel. They enjoyed cruises, trips to shows and sporting events, and the annual journey to the Whitaker Family Reunion! During trips and gatherings, Marian enjoyed telling jokes, showcasing her dance moves, and playing cards. She was very compassionate, always concerned about the wellness of family and friends and how she could lend a helping hand.

Marian led a very active life. She was a member of Dochiki Wives Auxiliary, Inc., the Second Street Baptist 50+ Club and Orcutt Seniors.  Marian was also an avid bowler for many years and often bowled in three leagues weekly. She was disciplined and committed to maintaining her health and fitness goals. Marian lost weight at an early age and maintained it by eating well and exercising regularly.  She was an active member of YMCA prior to the pandemic and resumed fitness activities at the Gardenville Senior Centerduring her stay in Florida.

She is survived by her stepson, Howard L. Whitaker(Yvonne); brother-in-law Charles Whitaker; two grandchildren, Dominique and Alex Whitaker, one great grandson, and nieces Lisa Bailey (Craig Lynch), Vanessa Reed (Vincent), Monica Robinson, nephew Ronald Sledge (Brenda), and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Gethsemane Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

A Viewing  will be held Wednesday, April 16th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at church on Thursday.
