Marqueta Neal Tyson, Esq. was born September 6, 1954 in Newport News, Virginia to Henry and Mozelle Moore Tyson. She was raised in Second Baptist Church, East End in Newport News, but joined Ivy Baptist Church when she returned to Hampton. Her education began at Paul Lawrence Dunbar Elementary School in Newport News, and she graduated from Hampton High School in 1972. During her senior year at Hampton High she was the Morning Announcer giving the thought for the day, where she encouraged us all to "RELAX". She matriculated to Hampton Institute where she became the first female announcer for the Marching Pirates. A sports and music enthusiast, Marqueta participated in skiing, swimming, golf, tennis, sailing, and the Hampton Institute Marching Pirates. She received a BA in Mass Media Arts from Hampton Institute, now known as Hampton University in 1976 (Ogre Phi Ogre II). Marqueta went on to Syracuse University where she received a MA from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Radio/Television. Upon her return to Hampton University she taught Broadcast Journalism and Television Production in the Scripps Howard School of Journalism. After her tenure at Hampton, Marqueta joined the GE Aircraft Engine Business Group in its Marketing Communications Department. Here she developed and implemented communication plans and strategies for the GE engine. Later, she founded Pulse Communications, a marketing communication/public relations firm. Her company solved communications and image related problems for Fortune 500 Companies and non-profit organizations. In 1995, Marqueta decided to change career paths. She went to law school graduating from Case Western Reserve School of Law in 1998. As a law student she was elected President of the Law School's student body and delivered the student commencement address. As a student, Marqueta also served as Press Secretary for the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones during her 1998 bid for the Congressional seat. Marqueta founded the Tyson Legal Team, PLC and Pulse Sports and Entertainment Management, LLC. She opened the Tyson Legal Team here in Hampton, but prior to that, she worked at two large law firms in Cleveland, Ohio, Benesch Friedlander and Brouse McDowell. Her largest victory was a $6.4 million jury verdict in Federal District Court (co-counsel). Marqueta was licensed to practice law in Ohio and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Her membership and affiliations include the following: former NFL Players Association Contract Advisor, General Counsel - National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc., Peninsula Bar Association, Hampton Bar Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Moles, The Business Improvement District Board for Downtown Hampton, Virginia, The Boys and Girls Club, Past President of the Rotary Club of Hampton, Virginia, and The Hampton History Museum.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated-Omega Omega Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Hampton University Memorial Chapel and the Celebration of Life will follow at 12.00pm.  Repast immediately following at McGrew Towers Conference Center.
