Mary Elizabeth Mock Hudson, 81, peacefully passed away into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 29,2020 at Novant Health Medical Center in Manassas, Virginia.

Mary was born June 29, 1938 in Highpoint, North Carolina to the late Jerry and Katherine Mock.  She moved to South Carolina with her aunt and uncle Pauline and Kenneth Brewton at the age of 2.  Mary graduated in 1955 from Lincoln High School then attended Benedict College followed by Hampton Institute (University).  At an early age she joined Monks Grove Baptist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Mary relocated to Hampton in 1961. Years later Mary became a  faithful member of Saint Paul AME Church in Newport News, Virginia.  Her 34 years of service includes serving as a missionary, in the Paulette's choir, the lay organization, women's ministry, on the bus committee and nurses ministry.  She was also a member of the women's auxiliary of the retired armed forces club in Hampton, Virginia. In 2004, after 18 years of service as a paraprofessional, Mary retired from Newport News Schools.  Mary devoted her remaining time to family; even going as far as to help in the upbringing of Antione Lawson, Tiffani Walker, and Unique Lawson.  She took every opportunity to connect with family as evidenced by her many trips to visit family. Mary was a diehard Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan who thought no game was worth watching unless they were playing.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Hudson; a granddaughter, Krisshunda Lawson; a brother, Jerry Mock; and a son-in-law, Ernest Williams.

Survivors include seven daughters, Cynthia of Newport News VA, Bernadette of Willingboro NJ, Loretta  of Newport News, VA, Joanne (Brenda) of Charlotte, NC, Darlene of Greensboro, NC, Barbara of Hampton, VA and Tierra  of Manassas, VA; sisters, Ernestine of Highpoint, NC,  Barbara of Hampton, VA, Dorothy of Shelby, NC, Gwendolyn of Newport News, VA, and Evelyn of  Highpoint, NC; brothers, Vergus of Greensboro, NC and Edward (Cynthia) of Highpoint, NC; 14  grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; 1 adorable grand-dog, Chimera; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service wll be held 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.  Viewing will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home and social distancing will be maintained.
