Celebrating the Life of Mary
2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,

but unto all them also that love his appearing.
On Monday, October 21, 2024, God called our beloved, Mary Elizabeth, home to rest at the age of 98. Mary Elizabeth was born on May 6, 1926 to the late James R. and Mary E. Copeland in Bertie County, North Carolina. Mary was educated in the Bertie County School System. At an early age, she joined Luella Baptist Church in Lewiston, North Carolina.
Mary was a resident of Newport News, Virginia. On March 7, 1982 she joined the Wesley Grove United Church of Christ in Newport News, Virginia. She was an active member until she became ill.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Outlaw, Sr.; her parents; three sisters, Georgetta Lee, Reva Bazemore and Dorothy Ruffin; and one brother, John Copeland.
Mary Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Geraldine Outlaw White and Nettie Bazemore (Ruben); three sons, Carlton Outlaw Jr. (Van), Wayne E. Outlaw and Antwine T. Outlaw (Blanca); six grandchildren, three great grandchildren; special nieces, Carolyn Pair and Lois Bazemore; special friends, Susie Holmes, Irene McCall and Margaret Banks; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Followed by interment in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Monday, October 28, 2024 at the funeral home. Please continue to keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. O. H.
