Michael Eldred Speller, Jr., age 80, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025.   A dedicated public servant, Michael proudly served his country and community with unwavering commitment and honor.

Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force following high school.  He served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in various Security Police & Law Enforcement positions at bases in Montana, New Hampshire, Maine, Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, and Delaware.

After retiring from the Air Force, Mike continued his lifelong commitment to public safety as a police officer with the Hampton Police Division in Hampton, VA.  For over 20 years, he protected and served the citizens of Hampton, leaving a lasting legacy of integrity, courage, and compassion.

Mike is survived by his cousin, Pamela Benjamin of New York.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Michael E. Speller, Sr. and Memborie McMillan Speller, and a special aunt, Doris Benjamin.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 3pm to 5pm, at the Aerospace Library of the Virginia Air and Space Science Center, 600 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton, VA.  Per Michael wishes, inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.  Services entrusted to O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, VA.
