Mollie Marie Carter Meade was born on May 28, 1929 to Robert and Edith Carter.  She departed this life on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at York Convalescent Center in Yorktown, VA.

She was born in Trenton, New Jersey and relocated to Yorktown, Virginia to continue her education.  She graduated from College and became employed with the Newport News Public School System.  Mollie loved teaching.  She was admired and well respected by many students and co-workers.  After 25 years of dedicated service, she retired from R. O. Nelson Elementary School.  Mollie was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Yorktown.

Mollie has gone to rest with her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and brother, Robert Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Edith Burke and Roberta Gilbert; special niece, Ella Johnson and her husband Cliff who were also her caregivers;  nieces and nephews, Loretta, Clarence, Ellen, Elaine (James), Lynda, Albert, Mary, Eileen, Molly, Brenda, Robert III, Darryl, Lamont, Gloria, Bobby and Willie; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Entombment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.  Ms. Meade will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.  O.
