Myrtle
Hundley
d. Jan 4, 2022
Saint Myrtle Virginia Hundley was born on May 14, 1934, in Newport News, Virginia and was the sixth of ten children born to the late Henry and Frances Green. Myrtle was called home to receive eternal rest by the Lord on January 4th, 2022, at her home.
"Billie" as she was affectionately called by her family and friends was a beautiful and loving Saint who was loved by all. As a child she attended schools in the Newport News Public School District and was a member of Huntington High School (Class of 1952). As a young girl, Myrtle attended and was baptized at Second Baptist Church (now Miracle Temple) along with her family where she sang with the Young Adult and Senior Choir Ministries. She would later become a member and be placed on the rolls of the House of Prayer for All People in 2000 and became active with the No. 2 Ushers. Saint Hundley was married to the late Winston H. Hundley Sr., and from their union eight beautiful children were born. She loved and cherished her family.
As a young adult, "Billie" started her employment within the Food Service Department in the Newport News Public School District. Upon leaving the school district, she began working for William and Jean Beckerdite to assist them in raising their daughter Kimberly, (from birth until she entered college). Kimberly referred to her as "Mommy Bert". Saint Hundley would eventually become employed with the Foster Grandparents Program at Magruder Elementary School where she was loved by both students under her care and teachers, Mrs. Sarah Littlejohn and Ms. Sarah Hastings. The little ones she cared for often referred to her as "Grandma". Soon after, she became a participant of the Riverside PACE Program, which is now INNOVAGE PACE, until she transitioned to her heavenly home.
Saint Hundley was preceded in death by her husband, Winston H. Hundley Sr.; daughter Tanya Hundley; two sons Leonard and Linwood Hundley; two grandsons; her parents; three sisters and four brothers.
Myrtle Hundley leaves to cherish her memories: caregiver and daughter, Angela Hundley of Hampton, VA; daughter, Cynthia Cooke of Newport News, VA; three sons, Michael Hundley (Carolyn); Kenneth Hundley (Tracy) both of Newport News, VA; and Winston H. Hundley (Ida) of Smithfield, VA; a goddaughter Renee Withers, of Washington DC; a brother Bernard Greene (Patricia), of Va. Beach, VA; twenty three grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 38 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the United House of Prayer for All People, 1811 Ivy Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. O. H.
