On Monday, December 23, 2024, Nancy Carol Davenport passed away peacefully at her residence in Virginia Beach, Virginia where she was lovingly cared for as she battled Alzheimer's Disease.

Nancy entered into this life on August 22, 1934, in Dillwyn, Virginia.  She was the youngest of four children born to Shirley Cunningham Brown.  Nancy accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mourners Valley Baptist Church in Buckingham County.  She was educated in the Buckingham Public School System, graduating from Buckingham Training High School in 1952.  After graduation, she moved to Newport News, Virginia to seek job opportunities and to be closer to her sister, Lucille, and other family members.

Nancy gained employment at Gloria Manufacturing Clothing Company, where she was a seamstress.  She learned how to sew early in life by watching her mother who was also a seamstress.  Nancy often gifted her nieces and great nieces with the finest dresses and the latest styles.

Later, Nancy met and married Clyde Paige and to this union of 17 years, one child was born, Adonis Adrian Paige. Nancy was a loving mother to Adonis.  She joined First Baptist Church East End in Newport News and remained active until her health began to fail.  During her time at First Baptist Church East End, she was a member of the League of Christian Women, served on the Senior Usher Board, was a member of the Senior and Mass Choirs. She also served on the Hospitality Committee and often baked delicious desserts for repasts and other church functions.  Later, Nancy reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Samuel "Ben" Davenport.  They married and he joined her at First Baptist Church East End.

Nancy enjoyed attending her high school class reunions, cooking, baking and hosting family and holiday dinners. She especially enjoyed preparing for her annual cookout where she invited family and friends.  Nancy was sassy, quick wit and had a great sense of humor.  She loved to have fun.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; mother; siblings, Samuel Cunningham, Minnie "Bea" Perdue and Lucille C. Lee; sister-in-law, Marie Cunningham; brother-in-law, Earnest Lee; nieces, Shirley and Lunell Devita Vanae; nephews, Ernest and Tyrone.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Adonis (Reamona); nieces, Gloria, Armeke (Otis) and Letress (Jimmy); special nephew, Anthony; brother-in-law, Peter L. Perdue; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, her Baltimore family, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the funeral home.  Nancy will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Friday.  O.
