Nevada Ashe Hyman born March 14th, 1930, a life-long and beloved resident of Newport News, VA, peacefully passed away on March 4th, 2024. She lived a life filled with love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Nevada attended Newport News Public Schools where she graduated from Huntington High in 1948. She later dedicated many years of service to the City of Newport News Treasurer's Office before retiring. She was not only known for her professional dedication but also for her vibrant spirit and love for music and dancing.
She was a devoted and supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt. Nevada's famous words to her daughters, "Take your time out there and do be careful," served as a reminder of her caring nature and concern for others' well-being.
Nevada was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loutrell Hyman, her parents Luther and Matilda Ashe, her sister's Francis Thomas and Jessie Collymore, niece Weyma "Pat" Williams (8 yrs. old) and her nephew James "Mickey" Nixon.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her two daughters, Lanae Hyman(Carrollton, GA) and Brenda Hyman (Newport News), and three great-nieces, Keisha Lewis (Largo, MD), Miranda, and Jamye Nixon (Atlanta,GA). Additionally, she will be fondly remembered by her extended family, Minerva Nixon, and a host of relatives and friends.
Nevada's life was a testament to love, compassion, and the joy found in simple pleasures. While she will be dearly missed, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Viewing for Mrs. Hyman will be on Wednesday, March 13th, 2026 from 3 - 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services to celebrate Nevada's life will be held at 11am on March 14th, 2026 at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
May she rest in eternal peace.
