The Luminous Journey

Born on July 13, 1958, Patricia Ann, the beloved daughter of McKinley Normal Sr. and Carol Jean Normal. While still a young girl, she awakened to her faith at Lite of Jericho Baptist Church, confessing with her mouth and believing in her heart that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. That faith remained her compass—a devotion she carried like a quiet flame throughout her life.

In 1976, Patricia Ann graduated from Vashon High School in St. Louis, laying the foundation for the life of strength she would go on to build. She entered into marriage with Michael Smiley, a union that blessed her with five children who were the center of her world: Kimberly, Michael, Tyrone, Melvin, and Cassandra. Later in life, Pat found a profound and enduring companionship in her common-law husband, Alphonso Underwood; their 25-year journey of love began in 1992 and remained the cornerstone of her heart until his passing in 2017.

The Heart of 'The Lou' in Virginia

Patricia moved to Newport News, VA, from St. Louis, MO, in the early 1990s. Pat possessed a beautiful soul and maintained a lovable and caring persona toward everyone she met. She loved to dance, smile, and create memories, and continued to represent St. Louis aka "The Lou." She welcomed everyone, and when she loved you, she loved you with all of her heart. Anything that was hers was yours.

Elegant Reunion

Patricia Ann now transitions to a place of Eternal Honor. She has been called home to a peaceful reunion with the family who paved the way before her. She is greeted by the parents who gave her life; her sisters, Frances Cherry and Donna Lawson, who shared her journey; her niece, Michelle Grant; her cherished aunt Bessie Kemp; and the son she has long held in her heart, Tyrone Normal. She is surrounded by the serenity of those who love her.

The Living Reflection

Patricia Ann's journey continues through her four children, to whom she gave her whole heart, her unwavering grace, and the strength to stand whole in this world: Kimberly Normal Smith, Michael Normal (Daraiel), Melvin Smiley, and Cassandra Smiley.

Pat's light is carried forward in the hearts of her ten grandchildren: Rashid Jones Normal, Amir Jones, Breion Smith, Darienne Normal, Noah Williams Smiley, McKaiyla Brooks, Da'Von Brooks Jr., Alyssa Dooley, James Dooley III, and Semaj Dooley; and her great-grandson, Abaan Jones.

She is also survived by her sister, Vicki Normal-Hill; her brothers, McKinley Normal Jr. (Elizabeth) and William Normal; her God sister, Carrie Byrd; and her uncle, Erma Kemp, whom she loves wholly. Her memory is cherished by her nieces and nephews: Angelic, Ronald Jr., Chaundra, Myeesha, Richelle, Khameise, Yulanda, Melissa, Brandon, Mckenzie, and Morgan; along with a vast community of family and friends who remain anchored in the love she shared so freely.
