A chapter completed, a page turned, a life well-lived, a rest well-earned.  Plummer R. Perry Jr. was born October 12, 1944, in Newport News, Virginia and passed into eternal rest December 14, 2021, in his home surrounded by the love of his wife of 46 years Yvonne M. Perry and his two children.  He was the son of Plummer R. Perry Sr. and Louise E. Douglas, both of whom preceded him in death.

At an early age, he was baptized at Zion Baptist Church (Newport News) and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church until God called him home to rest.

Plummer had the honor of graduating in the class of 1963 from Huntington High School.  He maintained his close connection to his friends and classmates through his active participation in the Huntington Class of 1963 and the Huntington Alumni Association.  He retired from the X32 Department of the Newport News Shipbuilding in 2007 after more than 35 years of devoted service as a skilled Machinist.

Plummer had a love of sports and vehicles.  A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team and his son's alma mater, the Virginia Tech Hokies: especially when they won.  He joined the Mass Production Motorcycle Club in July of 1984 and accepted the leadership position of financial secretary in 1988.

Plummer was a quiet man by nature but was worth listening to when he had something to say. He had an understated sense of humor which was surprising to those who did not know him well and a touch of sarcasm for those who were close to him.

Plummer enjoyed many hobbies.  You would often find him washing the cars, tending to the yard with great pride, or just tinkering around outside.  His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and close friends.  He took great pleasure in sharing new experiences with his oldest great-grandson Antonio.

Cherishing his memory, he leaves to mourn: his wife Yvonne M. Perry; a daughter Stephanie Small; a son Reginald A. Perry (James); a sister Debra P. Travis; two grandchildren, Antoinette and Ashleigh; three great-grandchildren Antonio, Caleb and Jayce; a niece Terri; a nephew Kenneth III; cousins, Shirley (Samuel) and Mildred; a brother-in-law Charles McKeller (Ruth); a brother of the heart John T. Wheeler and a host of other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021, from Noon to 3pm at O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.

A service of celebration will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at noon at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Avenue, Newport News, Virginia officiated by Bishop Dwight S. Riddick Sr.  Prior to the service, there will be a viewing from 10-noon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a donation to the Huntington High School Alumni Association at P.O. Box 275, Newport News, VA 23607.   O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
