Richard C. "Blue" Wills
Richard "Blue" transitioned to his Heavenly Home in the early hours on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He was tired and ready when the Angel took his hand to lead him home. Blue took his final trip from his niece (Lisa) and nephew's (Rick) residence in Hampton Va.
Blue was born on March 19, 1949 in Newport News Va. (Whitaker Memorial Hospital) to Janie and Addie Bob "AB" Steverson. Blue was the third child of five children. His father gave him the nickname of "Root Doc." Into his adult years, his friends started calling him "Blue." He was quite proud of that title. He was also called "Unc" by nephew Rick.
Blue attended elementary school and graduated from Huntington High School, Newport News. He also attended Thomas Nelson Community College for one year. He worked at Pembroke Construction Company for a while and decided to become a self-employed general contractor. Blue was still orchestrating jobs to other contractors up until two days before his death. He did not want to let his customers down during his illness, let's say he worked until his transition.
Blue was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Newport News where he was baptized. Later he became a member of First Fruits of Praise, Newport News. He re-dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized. He was an ordained deacon.
Blue was preceded in death by his parents (Janie and AB Steverson), older son (Rudolph Wills), and his younger brother (Albert "Fuzzy," his partner in crime).
Blue leaves behind sons Randall (Lisa) Wills, Leon Richardson (Victoria), Donald Richardson (Samantha), and Michael Richardson. Daughter Shameka Wills. Sisters Shirley Wills and Arlene Collins (Lafayette). Brothers Minister James (BobbyJo) Wills and Pastor Sherman Grant (Pastor Pamela). Niece/Mama Lisa Thomas (Richard). Nieces Latrice Patterson (Mike), Kelly Rogers, Carolyn Jones (Xavier), and Precious Wills. Nephews Steve Shelton, James Shelton, Alfred Nicholson, Damien Patterson, and Desmond Wills. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory, Barbara Richardson (ex-wife). A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to Carol Dixon (special friend) who was his care giver.
Blue was a daily fixture at Dave's Barber Shop (Newport News) where he maintained an unofficial office. Blue was always the life of any party. We will keep the laughter going. You will be missed.
The Family would like to thank the staff of Personal Touch Hospice for their outstanding care of Blue. Hospice professionals were Nurses (Stephanie, Elizabeth, Traci, and Shantelle), Social Worker (Fiona), and Chaplain (Beth).
Special thanks to Blue's friends who visited, called and sent cheers while he was in the hospital and at home. God Bless you all for your kindness.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2021 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the funeral home. Masks are required. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
