Robert Eugene Green

August 22, 1962 - May 3, 2024

Robert Eugene Green was born on August 22, 1962, in Newport News, Virginia, to Sarah and Floyd Green, Jr., who predeceased him. Robert was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 3, 2024.

After graduating from Menchville High School (The Mighty Monarchs) in 1980, Robert joined the United States Navy.  Robert served his country from 1981 through 1986 on the USS Flint II, a naval supply ship based in Concord, California. Robert held the position of boatswain's mate. He was initiated into the Naval Fraternity/Brotherhood of the U.S. Navy Shellbacks when he crossed the equator for the first time in l982.

Robert's life was a symphony of talent and passion. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he made his home in Hayward, California, where he crafted a career in the construction industry, specializing in the abatement field. Beyond his professional life, Robert was a gifted musician, a maestro who brought joy to many. He was the first chair in the clarinet section of the orchestra and band in high school, and his musical virtuosity extended to the alto saxophone, drums, keyboard, and piano. He even had his own band and composed melodic music and lyrics, leaving a lasting musical legacy.

Robert was a beacon of warmth and kindness in his community. His charisma, generosity, and genuine love for others created a sense of belonging for all. He welcomed friends and strangers alike into his life without judgment or concern, making everyone feel at home. This devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, lived life on his terms, cherishing simple joys like sports, music, electronics, ocean sunsets, and community gatherings. His d-jay courtyard cookouts and grilling sessions were legendary, a testament to his open-hearted nature. All were always welcome.

In 1984, Robert met Tracy Staton, and they married in 1985. Although the marriage ended in divorce, Robert and Tracy remained lifelong friends. Robert is survived by their two children, Britney Alexandria, and Robert Brandon; two granddaughters, Malaika Green and Kalelle Aiyanna Davis; two brothers, Floyd and Edwin (Valeria); two nephews, Justin and Allen; uncle, William Haskett (Eve); two aunts: Elaine Murray (Clifford) and Helen Latten (Leroy), and many cousins, family members, lifelong friends, and shipmates.

Funeral services to honor Robert's life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at O.H. & Son Funeral Home, located at 3009 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, Virginia, 23607. The service will be followed by a burial and military salute at Greenlawn Memorial Park, situated at 2700 Parish Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. A repass will be held after the burial.

The public viewing will take place at the funeral home from 3 pm to 6 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024 and from 9 am to 11 am before the service on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. All communications, condolences, and flowers should be sent to the funeral home.

Throughout his life, Robert has been surrounded by a loving family and friends, and it is comforting to know that he is resting in eternal life. Robert, fondly known as Gus, we love you. And, as you would say, "Always! Bet Dat!"
