Robert Lee Harris, 83, was born on July 10, 1935 and entered into eternal rest on Oct. 10, 2018. Robert was a native of Chase City, VA and a longtime resident of Newport News. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after many years of service. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Elam Harris. He is survived by three daughters, Matlean Smart, Loretta Harris, and Barbara Harris, all of Newport News; two sons, Robert Harris of Baltimore, MD, and Sam Butcher of Newport News; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Fri., Oct. 12, 2018 at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A Time of Prayer and Reflections will be at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 13, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
