Ronald Brickhouse, 86 years old, passed quietly at home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Hertford, NC to the late William & Vashti Brickhouse.  He was the eldest of 3 sons, two of whom preceded him in death: William (Mousey) and Anthony (Tony) Brickhouse.

He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1956 and later attended The Apprentice School for the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company. Ron graduated from the Apprentice School as one of the first blacks to successfully enter and complete the program.  He began his career as a Machine Specialist and retired as a Cost Engineer.

The same year, he married the love of his life, Janice Parker Brickhouse and to this beautiful union they had 2 sons.

Ronald was known for always being a supportive husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  His home was always the meeting place for family and friends.  We all knew that we would receive the best hospitality at what Ron himself referred to as "The Brickhouse Hotel".

Ron's dry sense of humor, his distinctive laugh, his tasty meats, his love for gadgets, electronics, math and most of all, his love for family will surely be missed.  He was the glue that kept us all together.  The twinkle we all saw in his eyes when we visited can never be replaced.  Hopefully his memories will soon replace the pain we all feel in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Brickhouse, 2 sons: Ronald Brickhouse, Jr. and Andre (Latrice) Brickhouse, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the funeral home.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
