Obituary

Rosa Lee Barrow was born May 19, 1926, to the late Charlie and Phibbie (Webb) Roberts in Gaston, North Carolina. She was the oldest of three children and their only daughter.

On February 28, 1967, Rosa Lee was united in holy matrimony to Purnell Barrow. She was the mother of two sons, Paul “Mack” Vincent, Sr. and Robert “Ray” Vincent.

Rosa Lee accepted Christ at an early age and later became a faithful and devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia. She participated in many church ministries, but found special joy serving as an usher in the house of the Lord.

Rosa Lee’s professional career included secretarial work and many years in clothing retail, including employment at Weblows Clothing Store and 15 years with JCPenney. She had a passion for fashion and an exceptional eye for selecting beautiful garments, styles, and colors.

Educated in Gaston, NC, Rosa Lee had a lifelong love of books and was an avid reader. She also shared her God-given gifts through the Newport News Public Schools Foster Grandparent Program, spending many years supporting children with academic, social, and developmental needs. A job well done!

Rosa Lee's life was a testament to her faith in God and love for family and friends. Her kindness, warm spirit, and laughter will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain in our hearts.

Rosa Lee departed this life on Friday, September 18, 2026, with her cousin Dorothy Young (Alfonso) by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Purnell Barrow; her parents, Charlie and Phibbie Roberts; her eldest son, Paul Vincent, Sr.; and her brothers, Charles “Lent” Roberts and Russell Roberts.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Robert Vincent (Christine) of Weldon, NC; grandsons, Paul Vincent, Jr. (Felicia) of Little Elm, TX, and Robert Vincent of Detroit, MI; step-granddaughters, Nakisha of Richmond, VA and Mystil Woodley of Chapel Hill, NC; great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Paul III, and Evan Vincent, Patrick Watkins, Kiara Calloway, and Deonte Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
