Reflection of Life
Rosemary Hutchinson entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, 11 April 2025, at Riverside Hospital. She was born in Newport News, VA on September 18, 1945, to the late Evelyn R. Avent.
Rosemary was a friendly and loving soul. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to many.
She was educated in the Newport News Public School system where she graduated from Huntington High School in 1963. She worked at Riverside hospital in the early 70's as a Dietitian. She met and married Allen Hutchinson, a military soldier from Waco, TX. They resided in Seattle Washington where they nurtured and raised her two sons, Tony and Jeffrey Taylor. In her travels with her family, she settled in Laurel MD, where she continued her career in Culinary. She was the Lead Dietitian for the University of Maryland hospital in Laurel, Maryland.
In 1990, she chose early retirement from her career to devote herself fully to caring for her beloved sons. She provided full-time care and support for her sons through their successes and battles in life, showing immense strength and unselfishness.
Rosemary had a kind and compassionate heart, always ready to befriend others and make them feel welcome. Her gift for listening and genuine empathy touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Taylor, and survived by her son, Jeffrey Calvin Taylor and five sisters: Ethel T. Roane, Arlene Avent, Patricia A. Drew, Kathryn Avent-Ortega (Rudy), Cheryl R. Avent, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Viewing will be from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 3009 Chestnut Avenue Newport News, VA 23607.
The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home and the interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.
