Sharon B . Simmons, 72, was granted her angel wings on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Riverside Medical Center, Newport News. Sharon was born to the late Maceo Alphonso Adkinson and Thelma Brown Adkinson. She was the second of four daughters born to this union. She was a lifelong member of First Church of Newport News (Baptist) and served in many ministries of the church. She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Sherman Byrd; daughter, Sharrlynn Byrd; two grandchildren, one great grandchild; sisters, Jacqueline Cherry and Pamela Jenkins; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at First Church of Newport News (Baptist). Viewing will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church Saturday. O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
