On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Mrs. Shirley Lyles, 93, departed this life on earth and was called home to "Glory".  Shirley was born September 14, 1928, to the late Goldie and Augustine Brown in Newport News, Virginia.  She was later raised by her grandmother.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lyles, brother, Fred Brown and sister-in-law, Margaret Brown.

Shirley was a member of Huntington High School graduating class of "47" in Newport News, Virginia.  She loved family and while being a military wife, she found her love for traveling.   She was a long-time member of the Orcutt Senior Citizen Traveling Club, traveling locally and international.  Shirley accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton, Va.

Shirley worked in Food Services for the Hampton Public Schools for over 10 years.

Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories; two devoted sons, Jack (Tina) and Gary (Winifred), Clinton Maryland; four grandchildren, Perry Francis, Brockton, Massachusetts; Tasha (Bruce) Jordon, Jack Francis, known as Jay, and Sarah Francis, Clinton Maryland. Great Grandchildren, Lacey Francis, Skayla Francis, both of Brockton, Massachusetts. Nichelle Jordan, Bryson Jordan, Jalil Francis and Nevaeh Francis.  She leaves a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, close friends and church family.  Among them a dear friend, Patricia Stewart, Nashville, Tennessee a devoted niece, Fara Shaw and a devoted cousin, Pam Moore.

A homegoing service will be held at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, Hampton, Virginia on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 11:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Jerome Barber officiating.  Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be from 3-6 pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
