Obituary

Early Tuesday morning, November 9, 2021, our beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Sonya Clevette Mabry earned her much deserved Heavenly Wings and entered eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, God Almighty.

Sonya was born July 31, 1966 in Newport News, Virginia to Cleveland C. Mabry and Bettie F. Jefferson Mabry.

Sonya completed her educational training at South Eastern Virginia Training Center, Chesapeake, Virginia.  She entered the Residential Placement Facility at Lindbrook Place Newport News, Virginia on July 1, 2010.  She was actively involved in all of the programs offered by the Versability Resources of Newport News, Virginia.  She especially enjoyed going on outings and field trips.

Sonya truly enjoyed music, especially The Motown Review Songs with her father, Cleveland and Gospel music with her Auntie Mama, Austina Jackson.  Everybody knew that she LOVED MINNIE & MICKEY MOUSE.

Mrs. Beverly Richardson was Sonya's first and much beloved care taker when she came into the program.  Sonya's face would light up whenever Mrs. Richardson would enter the room or whenever she heard her voice.

Sonya later became a resident of the Cloverleaf House where she enjoyed the fellowship of all her friends at the residence until her passing.  Ms. Karla Ricks was the House Manager.  The family truly appreciates the years Ms. Ricks has dedicated to assist and be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.  Minister, Dr. Brenda Hunter was with Sonya on the morning of her transition, we thank you for your loving care and prayers.

Sonya was preceded in death by her mother, Bettie F. Mabry-Johns; paternal grandparents, Alfred E. Mabry and Lucinda D. Mabry; uncle, Alfred Mabry, Jr.; and aunt, Shirleye M. Mabry Corbin.  She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Rev. Ellis Jefferson and Austina McIntyre-Jefferson; aunt, Annice Jefferson Carter; and uncle, Stephen A. Jefferson.
