Sylvia Cecelia Sidney Redding, 79, passed on Saturday May, 7, 2022 in Macon, GA. Sylvia was born to the late Major and Eloise Robinson Sidney in Newport News, VA. She was previously married to Thomas Andrew Redding. From that union, she was blessed with one son, Lance, whom she loved and adored.

She was educated at Booker T. Washington Elementary School and Huntington High School Class of 1960 (Newport News, VA). She continued her education at NC A&T State University (undergraduate) and Old Dominion University (graduate). She retired from the Hampton City School system in 2000 and became a life member of the Hampton Retired Teachers Association.

Sylvia was a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and an active member of the Newport News Alumni Chapter.
Sylvia was baptized at First Church of Newport News (Baptist) and remained a faithful member until becoming a founding member of Triumph Christian Church in 2010. In recent years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church East End.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Lance; his wife, Jessica and her daughter, Chloe; grandson, Major; brothers, Ollie (Ethelene) and Keith; nieces and nephews, Eric, Erica, Karl, Eric and Dwayne; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing will begin at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the funeral home followed by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Omega Service from 6-7 p.m.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
