Obituary

Violet Rose Boone Williams was born May 4, 1925, in Warwick County, Virginia to the late Pierce Butler Boone and Rosa Colorado Weaver Boone. Violet departed this life on January 21, 2024. Violet graduated from Huntington High School, where she was a member of the chorus and student body leadership, in 1944. Her passions in life were her family, her "World Victory Church" family, and her "Huntington High School Class of 1944" family. Violet worked in the banking industry as a teller for over 40 years, starting at Crowns Saving Bank until it transitioned to The Bank of America. Upon her retirement, she dedicated her time to her church, her family, and her Huntington Highschool alumni events.  At an early age, she became a master seamstress and when Violet wasn't working on a sewing project, she could be found in church, practicing lines for a play, helping in the kitchen, singing in the choir, or sewing costumes for the next performance. Her coveted corn pudding was often the topic of conversation at many church events. Violet's life was long, rich, and full, but those of us who were Blessed to be touched by her infectious love and fierce loyalty, understand that her existence and the imprint Violet left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that Violet stayed here. Not a day went by where Violet didn't talk about how much her children and family meant to her – Violet's family was arguably her most important achievement in life.

Violet was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Percy Bradford Boone and Edward Karl Boone, and one sister, Julia May Rollins.

She is survived by her two sons, Louis W. Johnson Jr. (Bernice), Karl Butler Johnson (Vera); her daughters in law, Virginia Harris (Chris), Lillian Joe (Yulis); her grandchildren, Karla Young (Ronny), Shawn Green (Carlton), Louis W. Johnson III (Becca), Karl Butler Johnson Jr. (Emily), and Michael Johnson; her loving niece and nephews; Cecelia Rollins Murriel, Joseph Metz Rollins Jr., Percy Bradford Boone Jr. (Paula), and Deborah Boone; her great grandchildren, Carmen Johnson-Henry, Alexus Johnson, Carlton Brian Green, Madison Johnson,  Isabella Alexandra Young-Jones, Thomas Johnson,  James Louis Green, Anthony Johnson, Andre Johnson, Ariella Johnson, Sebastian Johnson, Dominic Johnson and Snow Johnson; and a host of great-great grandchildren and extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at World Victory Church, Newport News.  Viewing will be from 3-6 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
