Warren Calvin Harvey was born to the late Sidney and Hettie Belle Harvey in Newport News, Virginia on July 1, 1943. He departed this life on July 20, 2023.

Warren grew up in Newport News, Virginia with his four siblings. A graduate of Huntington High School, Warren served four years in the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran. After completing his active duty with an honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country as an Army reservist for another four years. There after he worked diligently for the United States Postal Service for over three decades.

Warren was devoted to his family and tried to help those in need whenever he could. For many years he helped senior citizens file their taxes so they could receive a timely refund and he often hired local handymen from his neighborhood to do odd jobs when work was slow.

Warren took great pleasure in the time he spent with his children and his grandchildren. Warren (aka Grandad Harvey) had an uncanny knack for finding the "best toys ever" according to his grandkids (when they were little). When they asked him how he did it, he said "I just bought the toys I wished I had when I was a kid".

In his free time, Warren enjoyed riding his bike (an old school "10 Speed") around his neighborhood (until his knees wouldn't let him) and loved to swim laps at the YMCA. He also was an avid music fan and attended the Hampton Jazz Festival regularly for many years. Day or night the radio was always on with smooth jazz or R&B playing when you visited Warren.

Warren is preceded in death by two beloved brothers, (Deacon) Jesse Harvey, and Nelson Harvey, as well as a dear nephew, Jesse Harvey Jr. (JJ).

He now leaves to cherish his memories: brother, Nathaniel Harvey of California, sister, Earlene Harvey Overton (Albert, Smokey) of Oregan, sister-in-law Cheryl Harvey (Jesse) of Virginia; son, Derrick Sidney Harvey (Natasha) of Virginia, daughter, Deirdre Siomara Harvey of Florida; grandchildren, Rachel, Naomi, and Trevor Harvey; nephews, Kenan Harvey, Malik Harvey, Anthony Harvey, Rodney Blizzard and Sean Overton; nieces, Jesseca Harvey, Shayla Harvey, Tawana Nichols, and Tina Nichols Bolden; aunt, Eartie L.Watson of New Jersey, and a wonderful host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, church members, and acquaintances.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
