William Edward Sumner III "Bill", 47, passed away on September 29, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.  He was born December 3, 1972 to Lorraine Sumner and William Edward Sumner, Jr. in Queens, NY.  He was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School.  He worked in the shipping and receiving industry and had a variety of responsibilities.  In 2010, he met Lisa Pierre-Louis and they later married on December 2, 2012 in Newport News, Virginia.

Bill decided to renew his faith and was baptized on October 9, 2010 at Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church, by Pastor Trevor Kinlock. He became a Deacon in 2014 and was later ordained in 2016. Bill viewed Christianity as not just a name but as "loving your fellow man" and giving wherever there is a need.

Bill was a happy cheerful person and was also known as a jokester- he had the gift of making people laugh.  If he knew you for a while, you also had a nickname that he created specifically for you. He loved music and loved to dance and was often the life of the party.  He was also a diehard New York Giants fan and all things New York.  He loved his family and loved when everyone got together which made him the happiest.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William E. Sumner, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Sumner; mother, Lorraine; two children-daughter, Tashena (Tyrrell) and son, William IV (Samara); sister, Tracey (Charles); nephew, Omar Jr.; five grandchildren, Noah, Noble, Nalani, Aria and Navy; Aunt Judy and several cousins, 238 ^th Street neighborhood family; and a host of very special friends.

Viewing will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  Due to COVID 19 the funeral service will be private.  O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
