Mable Smith Drew was a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend. She was born on April 1, 1944, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Pernell and Louise Smith. Mable was educated in the Newport News Public School System and attended George Washington Carver High School. She went on to build a long and dedicated career at Riverside Hospital, where she faithfully served for 30 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pernell and Louise Smith, and her beloved siblings: James Smith, William Nazareth, Rev. Elmer Lee Nazareth, Carolyn Smith Campbell, Joan Smith, and Doris Nazareth.
Mable leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughters, Sandra Easter (Ron) and Alisa Drew Parker (Shaun); her sons, Larry Smith and James Smith; and her siblings, Helen Bland, Randolph Smith (Christine), and Raymond Smith. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Gwendolyn Smith, Alexis Gourdine, Keyel Halls, Ashauna Parker, and Shaun Parker; and her great-grandchildren, Dezjah Smith, Destiny Smith, Zy'Anna Smith-Bethea, and Jaycee Smith. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts. Though Mable has gained her heavenly rest, the love, wisdom, laughter, and memories she shared will continue to live on through the generations she leaves behind. Her life was a gift, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply loved and forever missed by all who knew her. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.” Rest peacefully Mable, your legacy of love lives on. ✦ ✦ ✦
